Sharetribe alternative: the platform is delivered customised, not left to configure

Sharetribe, Kreezalid, Bubble, Bookinglayer: these tools give you access to a builder. This page explains what changes when the customisation happens before you receive the platform — and when the others remain the better choice.

What Sharetribe does better

Let us start there. Sharetribe has a ten-year head start, more than 10,000 marketplaces launched, a free trial you can start in minutes, and a price negotiation flow that barely exists anywhere else. If you want to test an idea this weekend without committing to a setup fee, or if your concept relies on offers and counter-offers between buyer and seller, go with them: it is the right tool. This page is for the other cases.

The real difference is not the price, it is who does the work

I could tell you this is cheaper than Sharetribe. It would not be true: their entry plan sits around $99 per month, the same order of magnitude as the €99/month here. Where the price gap is real is against solutions offering a comparable level of customisation: Kreezalid around €249/month, Bookinglayer from €260/month.

But the difference that actually matters is elsewhere. With a builder, the subscription gives you access to a tool, and the customisation work is still ahead of you — you, or a developer you pay on top. Here, the customisation happens before delivery: your business categories, your brand, your operating rules are in place when you receive the platform. You are not renting a building site, you are receiving a platform that runs.

Two ways to pay, never both at once

Almost every platform in this market takes a commission on each transaction, on top of the subscription. While you are validating your idea, it is painless. The moment it works, it becomes a tax on your growth: every extra euro of volume feeds your supplier’s invoice.

On the subscription tiers there is no commission: you keep 100% of your transactions, minus only your payment provider’s fees — those exist everywhere and none of them come to me. At €10,000 of monthly volume as at €100,000, the subscription stays the same.

A second way to pay is coming soon, designed for projects that are just starting: a percentage of your transaction volume instead of the monthly subscription, with the rate announced at launch. The two models are mutually exclusive — you pick one or the other, they never stack, and the setup fee remains due in both cases. Online payment runs through Stripe Connect with automatic splitting between sellers, or in direct collection mode if that suits your business.

Your instance, your data, your domain

Let us be precise about what you get, because vague wording on this point gets expensive later. The platform is hosted and maintained by me, and it is yours to use for as long as you subscribe. This is not a shared space: you have your own instance, your isolated database, your data, and your domain name. What you enter on your side is visible only on your side.

And the foundation is not a prototype: Homie Book, a home-services booking platform, runs in production on this very architecture, with real providers and real payments. You are not funding a first attempt.

Marketplace, booking, or both

None of the tools on this list sells both logics in a single foundation: marketplace builders leave booking to a third-party module, and booking solutions do not handle multi-vendor. Here, both modules live in the same codebase. You pick one, or both, and the module you do not keep is removed before delivery so it never clutters your admin panel.

  • Marketplace module alone: multi-vendor catalogue, cart, orders
  • Booking module alone: availability, slots, confirmations
  • Both combined: billed at €25/month on top of your tier

No code at all, and here is why that is true

“No-code” is such a worn-out promise that it barely means anything. Concretely, here: no line of code to write, no developer to hire, because a complete admin panel ships with the platform. You manage listings, profiles, site copy language by language, images and review moderation from ordinary navigation menus.

Let us be clear about the boundary: you do not rebuild the structure of the platform yourself in a visual editor. That part is what I deliver. What you manage on your own is all of your platform’s day-to-day content.

What it actually costs, tier by tier

The four tiers differ only in usage limits: no feature is reserved for the more expensive ones. Beyond the last tier it is quote-based, with no vendor limit.

On top of that come one-off setup fees from €500, and the combined marketplace + booking module at €25/month if you want both. You can change tier at any time: nobody gets locked into the wrong choice at the start.

When Sharetribe stays the better choice

Three cases where I would send you to them without hesitating: you want to test an idea this week with no upfront cost; your concept relies on price negotiation between buyer and seller; or you want to be able to reconfigure everything yourself, permanently, without going through anyone. Those are three real needs, and a platform delivered customised does not answer them better than a self-service builder.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a builder like Sharetribe or Bubble?
With a builder, the subscription gives you access to a tool and the customisation is still ahead of you — done by you or by a developer you pay on top. Here, your categories, your brand and your operating rules are already in place when you receive the platform, and you then manage it from an admin panel.
Do I own the platform’s code?
No, and it is better said plainly than discovered later: the platform is hosted and maintained by me, and it is yours to use for as long as you subscribe. What you do get for yourself is your dedicated instance, your isolated database, your data and your domain name.
Do you take a commission on my transactions?
On the subscription tiers, no commission at all: you keep 100% of your transactions, minus only your payment provider’s fees, which exist with any solution you choose. A percentage-based option is coming soon, and it will replace the monthly subscription rather than being added to it.
How long until launch?
Expect 2 to 4 weeks between scoping and go-live, against 9 to 18 months for equivalent custom development. The foundation already exists: the timeline covers customisation and going to production, not building the platform.

Still torn between the two approaches?

Describe your project in a few lines. If a self-service builder fits your situation better, I will tell you — it is faster for you and for me.
